Elizabeth Eckford seen trying to walk into central high school while groups of white students harass and yell at her. This only made her grow stronger because she knew what achievements came out of her continuing on her way. During this time many students didn't understand how to intertwine with another race, it was fairly new to them and they grew up only knowing hate towards them. It spurred much controversy between races.
Such hate groups against African Americans, such as the Ku Klux Klan used extreme violence to show their hatred to the black community. This became one of the main obstacles to the African Americans because it indeed jeopardized their safety. Many were taken off the streets and tortured and or out of their own homes. It became relevant that something had to be done, but the time period of the mid 20th century was one of segregation. Even though scared for their safety, they ensured that their security in society as well as their peers was there before they even thought of backing down.
A man on the street gets brutally attacked by officers and an police dog. This picture depicts the cruelty segregation caused for most African Americans who wanted the change for equality. Most stood up to the police, and took the punishments because they couldn't do otherwise as well as because there wasn't any reason to back down. The fact of the matter is most wanted to prove points of how nothing would stop them from fighting for their rights of equality.
