As desegregation was in the air, many African Americans began to get involved with Lunch Counter Sit-ins. In 1960 four African American college students walked up to a whites-only lunch counter at Woolworth's store in Greensboro, North Carolina; they sat quietly as well as patiently to be attended to. They continued to sit and wait through various violent outbursts from whites and the owners. This encouraged others to do the same as well as start other forms of boycotts.
FREEDOM RIDERS
Freedom rides were where African Americans came together to stop bus route segregation. During this era African Americans were expected to ride in the back of the buses. Such as the boycott of Rosa Parks; she refused to give up her seat to a white man at the front of the bus, she was arrested but didn't give in. This sparked the revolution of various bus boycotts towards the creation of the "Freedom Rides".
CHURCH PRAY-INS
The Church Pray-ins happened mostly at white churches and segregated institutions, where blacks would condense the area in order to make their presence shown. Much violence was raised by the law but the African Americans continued to fight for their rights. This called for blacks to stand up to how the churches discriminate towards them due to the color of their skin. The pray-ins allowed the blacks to have a voice for their people, future generations and their religion.
